When the World Wars were over and the whole world was introduced to the comfortable t-shirt, its popularity grew and hasn't stopped to this day.

By 1955, it was acceptable to wear a t-shirt without another shirt covering it. James Dean made the T-Shirt a contemporary symbol of rebellious youth through his "cool" role in "Rebel Without A Cause".
