Can you remember a time in your life when there were no t-shirts? It's unlikely since they have been around since the beginning of the 20th century in America. Of course, cat tshirts were far from the first. T-shirts go back further than that to the industrial revolution in England. It was after that that mass production became a reality and so began the growth of the T-shirt industry.

Cotton was chosen as the material of choice after some experimentation. T-Shirts were originally intended to be worn solely as undergarments for comfort and protection against rough outer clothing. Cotton was ideal.
However, in southern Europe, by the 20th century, men working during the hot days of summer resorted to wearing just the t-shirt.
When army personnel from the US went to Europe, they saw this lightweight, relaxed garment that could be worn in mixed company. When the World Wars were over and the whole world was introduced to the comfortable t-shirt, its popularity grew and hasn't stopped to this day.

Initially an undergarment, the T-Shirt was soon starring in its own role on the big screen. John Wayne, Marlon Brando, James Dean ...they each wore their "underwear" on national TV to the shock of many.
By 1955, it was acceptable to wear a t-shirt without another shirt covering it. James Dean made the T-Shirt a contemporary symbol of rebellious youth through his "cool" role in "Rebel Without A Cause".
Further commercial popularity came in the 60's with the addition of the tie dye and screenprint methods.
You probably know the rest. Rock and roll bands began to profit from welling their T-Shirts. The officially licensed T-Shirts of professional sports teams became hot merchandise. And the tee shirt cat style caught on with the many cat lovers around the world. Cat clothing has long been popular with cat lovers and the t shirt was a welcome addition.
Now the t-shirt has entered cyberspace. The artwork symbolizes the cultural and social climate of our times. The printing is state of the art created by true artists.
