CAT NESTING DOLLS
Cat Nesting Dolls are one of many types of nesting dolls or stacking dolls, also known as the matryoshka doll. They are one of Russia’s most beloved folk crafts.
These wooden dolls, a Russian folk craft dating back to the 1890's, are composed of sets of dolls in graduated sizes that fit inside each other. Matryoshka dolls are slightly contoured, egg-shaped wooden toys made up of many pieces that open to reveal smaller characters hidden inside. One doll can hold 40 or more interior parts. Matryoshkas are often seen as representing mother Russia, and the snug dolls-within-dolls symbolize blessings upon blessings waiting to be discovered.
Since 1993, a North Carolina based company in conjunction with Russian artisans and craftsmen has been making authentic Russian nesting dolls. The result has been thousands of nesting dolls made from unique designs in the Russian doll workshop. The unique dolls have reached a broad spectrum of customers, from individual collectors to corporations such as USA Films, Pepsi, Nestle, and John Deere.
The Matryoshka dolls we offer are all Cat Nesting Dolls and are in 2 to 30 piece versions. The mini nesting dolls are unbelievable: one doll stands only 1.5" high yet opens to reveal 9 more detailed dolls inside!
